Permanent  Makeup Frequently Asked Questions

What is permanent cosmetic makeup?

Permanent cosmetic makeup is cosmetic tattooing. This specialized techniques used for permanent cosmetics are often referred to as micro pigmentation, micro pigment implantation or derma graphics. Pigments are derived from vegetable products and are either pre mixed manually, creating a broad palette from which to choose. Regardless of the name, the process remains the same: colour is permanently inserted into the upper dermal layer of the skin using fine needles dipped in hypo allergenic pigment (inorganic pigments). The pigments bonds to the skin cells and is visible though the translucent layer.

The most common permanent procedures include eyeliner, eyebrow shading, lip liner and full lip colouring.

What type of permanent cosmetic procedure can be done?

  • Immediately after the procedure the area treated will look much darker and more defined.

  • After the healing process the colour will be significantly lighter and the overall appearance much softer and natural.

  • It will take time for this transition based on how quickly the outer layer of skin exfoliate.

  • Usually this exfoliation process takes 4-5 days and will be complete at about day 7.

  • At that point the contrast between the initial intense dark colour and the new softer and lighter look may be so that the client will be disappointed, she should not worry however.

This is why:

This is normal. The therapist will be applying a second application in 4 - 6 weeks. That is when shape and colour will be adjusted according to the clients liking, it is much easier to enhance than to remove or lighten after the colour has been applied.

The recovery process:

  • Due to slight inflammation during the procedure the client can expect some swelling and tenderness around the tattooed area for one or two days.

  • This is followed by a scabbing and peeling process within the first week of recovery.

  • During the first week of the healing process the client must avoid exposing the treated area to sunlight as well as water (no swimming, showering or sauna sessions).

  • The client must keep the tattooed area clean and apply the provided antibiotic cream when necessary to keep the area moist until healing is complete (usually 7-10 days).

Aftercare:

  • Avoid direct contact with water for 5 days.

  • Apply provided antibiotic cream regularly to keep area moist at all times.

  • After 4-5 days the skin will form and scab and peel off.

  • DO NOT pull or peel this scab off let it peel off by itself.

Eyeliner:

  • Keep away from water for 5 days.

  • Use an ice bag to relieve the swelling if needed.

  • Apply provided antibiotic cream regularly to keep area moist at all times.

  • Use a cotton bud to clean the inside of the eye.

  • DO NOT TOUCH THE AREA WITH YOUR FINGERS

  • After a few days the skin (scab) on top of the lines will start to peel off.

  • DO NOT pull or peel this scab off let it peel off by itself.

  • Apply provided antibiotic cream regularly to keep area moist at all times.

  • Drink with a straw and eat carefully.

  • Avoid all chemicals or makeup.

  • DO NOT use toothpaste, alcohol products or lipstick within one week, it may cause infections or cold sores.

  • After 5-7 days the dead skin will start to peel off DO NOT pull this peel off let it peel off by itself.

Anaesthetic:

I pride myself in using high standard anaesthetic to make the procedure more comfortable for all my clients

Anaesthetic will be applied beforehand and in-between the procedure.

There are three separate forms of anaesthetic:

  • Cream

  • Liquid

  • Gel

Tattoo removal:

As with tattoos permanent makeup can be difficult to remove but can be done. Common techniques used for this are laser resurfacing, physical or chemical exfoliation and surgical removal. Camouflaging can be done or reconstruction of an existing permanent makeup by adding a new pigment which counteracts the tattoo colour. Removal can often be more uncomfortable than the tattooing itself but with the correct preparation and anaesthetic, this procedure will be possible. A follow up visit can be expected depending on the depth of the tattoo.
